Declogger® for Enteral Feeding Tubes - 14-16 FR, 10/bx

The Bionix Declogger® (921) is a professional-grade clinical deobstruction tool specifically engineered for the rapid restoration of enteral feeding tube patency within institutional settings. This specialized device is designed to function as a mechanical "corkscrew" to clear hardened formula clogs and medication sediment, making it an essential component for clinicians managing non-functional Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG) tubes or replacement-type gastrostomy tubes. This tool features a flexible, reinforced polypropylene stem for durability and maneuverability through the length of the indwelling tube.

This specific configuration is the 14–16 French size with a 21.5 cm length, optimized for shorter PEG-style adult enteral tubes to provide a precise, effective clearing action that significantly reduces the need for invasive and costly tube replacements. The threaded, screw-like tip allows for rapid clinical deployment and controlled mechanical breakdown of obstructions without damaging the internal wall of the feeding tube. The unit comes in a box of 10, providing a comprehensive solution for high-volume patient care in acute care, long-term care, and rehabilitation environments.

Please note: All prices are for boxes.

Key Features

Mechanical Deobstruction Versatility: Functions seamlessly as a specialized tool for clearing localized clogs within a designated clinical space.

Threaded "Screw-Tip" Design: Facilitates easy, mechanical engagement with formula clogs to break them apart for subsequent flushing.

Integrated Depth Markers: Provides a stable, visual reference for the clinician to track the insertion depth and avoid over-advancement.

Standard Luer Connection: Outfitted with a safety disc to prevent over-insertion and provide a secure grip during the rotation and extraction process.

Reinforced Flexible Stem: Provides the structural integrity required to navigate tube bends while maintaining enough rigidity to apply pressure to the obstruction

Ideal Clinical Applications

Institutional Enteral Maintenance: Optimized for the restoration of flow in large-bore feeding tubes for non-ambulatory patients within institutional care suites.

Post-Medication Flush Protocols: Specifically indicated for clearing tubes that have become occluded by improperly crushed medications or thick formula residues.

Emergency Tube Salvage: Provides a secure, immediate alternative to surgical or radiological tube replacement for patients with critical nutritional needs.

Rehabilitation Support: Used in clinical settings to maintain the patency of long-term enteral access sites during a patient’s stay in a facility.

Tube Patency Management: The mechanical design allows for safer, more efficient clinical clearing of stubborn clogs that chemical decloggers cannot penetrate.

Important Safety Information

The manufacturer's product & safety information can be found here.

Contraindications

Do not use this device in tubes smaller than 14 FR, as this can lead to tube rupture, entrapment of the tool, and significant patient injury.

Do not use this tool if the feeding tube is known or suspected to be malpositioned or if the integrity of the tube wall is compromised.

Do not use this device on nasogastric (NG) or nasojejunal (NJ) tubes. The DeClogger® (921) is specifically sized for G, J, and PEG tubes and is not long enough or thin enough for nasal access lines.

Warnings & Precautions

Ensure the Bionix Declogger® is inserted with gentle pressure. Forcing the tool against a solid resistance is a high-risk perforation hazard.

Always ensure the tube is flushed with water after using the tool to remove any loosened debris that could cause a secondary obstruction.

Monitor the tool for signs of kinking or stress fractures during use. If the plastic stem shows signs of whitening or fatigue, the unit must be replaced immediately to prevent the tool from breaking off inside the feeding tube.

This device is designed for single-patient, single-use only. Reusing the tool can lead to cross-contamination between patients and a loss of mechanical integrity, increasing the risk of device failure.
