The DeClogger® (Bionix, LLC) (912) is a specialized, flexible medical device designed to restore the patency of obstructed gastrostomy (G) and jejunostomy (J) tubes. Engineered with a proprietary threaded design, the DeClogger® (912) allows healthcare professionals to bore through tough occlusions—such as formula buildup or medication clogs—without the need for tube replacement. The tool features a flexible polypropylene shaft that conforms to the curvature of the feeding tube, minimizing the risk of internal damage or puncture.
Safety is integrated into the design via a built-in Stop Disc, which prevents over-insertion and ensures the device does not enter the patient's gastrointestinal tract. The yellow-coded DeClogger® (912) is sized for standard gastrostomy or jejunostomy tubes with a length of 39.5 cm. Routine use of the DeClogger® (912) serves as a maintenance tool to avoid the formation of dense clogs, thereby reducing clinical interruptions and ensuring the consistent delivery of nutrients and medications.
Key Features
- Mechanical Deobstruction Versatility: Functions seamlessly as a specialized tool for clearing localized clogs within a designated clinical space.
- Threaded "Screw-Tip" Design: Facilitates easy, mechanical engagement with formula clogs to break them apart for subsequent flushing.
- Integrated Depth Markers: Provides a stable, visual reference for the clinician to track the insertion depth and avoid over-advancement.
- Standard Luer Connection: Outfitted with a safety disc to prevent over-insertion and provide a secure grip during the rotation and extraction process.
-
Reinforced Flexible Stem: Provides the structural integrity required to navigate tube bends while maintaining enough rigidity to apply pressure to the obstruction
Ideal Clinical Applications
- Institutional Enteral Maintenance: Optimized for the restoration of flow in large-bore feeding tubes for non-ambulatory patients within institutional care suites.
-
Post-Medication Flush Protocols: Specifically indicated for clearing tubes that have become occluded by improperly crushed medications or thick formula residues.
-
Emergency Tube Salvage: Provides a secure, immediate alternative to surgical or radiological tube replacement for patients with critical nutritional needs.
-
Rehabilitation Support: Used in clinical settings to maintain the patency of long-term enteral access sites during a patient’s stay in a facility.
-
Tube Patency Management: The mechanical design allows for safer, more efficient clinical clearing of stubborn clogs that chemical decloggers cannot penetrate.

Important Safety Information
The manufacturer's product & safety information can be found here.
Contraindications
Do not use this device in tubes smaller than 16 FR, as this can lead to tube rupture, entrapment of the tool, and significant patient injury.
Do not use this tool if the feeding tube is known or suspected to be malpositioned or if the integrity of the tube wall is compromised.
Do not use this device on nasogastric (NG) or nasojejunal (NJ) tubes. The DeClogger® (912) is sized for G and J tubes and is not appropriate for the length or diameter requirements of nasal access lines.
Warnings & Precautions
This device is for professional use only and should only be operated by a licensed healthcare provider. Incorrect use by untrained individuals can result in tube damage or patient injury.
This is a single-use device. Reusing the DeClogger® (912) can compromise the mechanical integrity of the plastic threads and introduces a significant risk of cross-contamination and healthcare-associated infections (HAIs).
Check the feeding tube size and type before use. Using the DeClogger® (912) in a tube smaller than 16 FR can cause the device to become stuck, while using it in a tube larger than 22 FR may result in ineffective clearing.
Always inspect the device for kinks or stress marks before insertion. If the polypropylene shaft is bent or weakened, discard the unit to prevent it from snapping inside the enteral tube.
Note that the DeClogger® (912) is incompatible with ENFit® connectors; verify connection types before attempting use.
