The Solventum Tegaderm™ Frame Style Transparent Film Dressing (SKU 1624W) is a sterile, waterproof, and breathable medical dressing designed to protect skin and wound sites. This 2 3/8 inch x 2 3/4 inch (6 cm x 7 cm) dressing features the classic "picture-frame" delivery system, which provides a stable border for precise, one-handed application while preventing the thin film from wrinkling or sticking to itself. The dressing creates a barrier against external contaminants—including liquids, bacteria, and viruses—while remaining transparent to allow for continuous clinical observation without disturbing the wound bed or insertion site.
Key Features
- Picture-Frame Delivery System: Simplifies application by providing a rigid border for accurate placement, significantly reducing product waste and ensuring a secure, wrinkle-free seal.
- Waterproof and Breathable: Effectively blocks external fluids and contaminants while allowing for the exchange of moisture vapor and oxygen, which is essential for maintaining skin integrity.
- Continuous Visibility: The transparent film allows healthcare providers to monitor IV sites or wounds at a glance, reducing the frequency of unnecessary dressing changes.
- Conformable Adhesive: The thin, flexible film follows body contours and stretches with movement, increasing patient comfort and extending the wear time of the dressing.
- Hypoallergenic Adhesive: Formulated to be gentle on the skin, minimizing the risk of irritation and adhesive-related skin injuries during removal.
-
Viral Barrier: In vitro testing confirms that the intact film provides a barrier against viruses 27 nm in diameter or larger, protecting both the patient and the site.
Ideal Clinical Applications
- Peripheral IV Securement: The standard size for securing peripheral intravenous catheters, providing both stabilization and a sterile barrier.
- Minor Wounds and Abrasions: Protects superficial injuries, skin tears, and blisters from friction and external moisture.
- Post-Surgical Protection: Used to cover clean, closed surgical incisions to maintain sterility while allowing for easy inspection of the suture line.
- Secondary Dressing: Highly effective for securing primary wound fillers (such as alginates or hydrogels) that require a waterproof outer layer to function correctly.
- Skin Protection: Helps prevent skin breakdown caused by friction or constant exposure to moisture and bodily fluids (e.g., incontinence care).
- Autolytic Debridement: Creates a moist environment that encourages the body's natural enzymes to break down necrotic tissue in sloughy wounds.

Important Safety Information
Drug Patch Contraindication: Do not use this dressing to cover a medicated drug delivery patch (like fentanyl or nicotine). The occlusive nature of the film can increase the absorption rate of the drug, potentially leading to an overdose.
Skin Tension Warning: Do not stretch the dressing during application. Applying the film under tension can cause mechanical skin trauma and tension blisters.
Hemostasis Requirement: Active bleeding must be controlled and adequate hemostasis achieved at the site before applying the dressing to ensure a safe and secure seal.
