Sterile XEROFORM® Petrolatum Non-Adhering Dressings, 2" x 2"
Please note: All prices are for cases.
The Dukal® Sterile XEROFORM® Petrolatum Non-Adhering Dressing (SKU 214) is the precision-sized primary wound contact layer in the Xeroform product line. This 2-inch by 2-inch (5.1 cm x 5.1 cm) dressing is composed of a fine-mesh gauze impregnated with 3% Bismuth Tribromophenate and USP-grade petrolatum. It is specifically designed for small-scale wound management where a non-adherent, medicated barrier is required to protect regenerating tissue and maintain a moist healing environment. Its small footprint makes it ideal for application on digits, small biopsy sites, and pediatric injuries without the need for folding or trimming larger dressings.
Key Features
- Precision 2" x 2" Dimensions: Specifically sized for small, localized wounds to provide a neat, efficient fit that reduces material waste and simplifies application in tight anatomical spaces.
- Bacteriostatic and Deodorizing Blend: Infused with 3% Bismuth Tribromophenate, which provides a mild bacteriostatic effect to suppress bacterial colonization and acts as a deodorizing agent for the wound site.
- Atraumatic Non-Adherent Surface: The petrolatum-saturated gauze creates a lubricated barrier that prevents the dressing from sticking to the wound bed, ensuring pain-free removal and protecting new epithelial cells from mechanical trauma.
- High-Conformity Fine Mesh: The fine-knit gauze construction is highly flexible, allowing it to conform and cling securely to small, irregular surfaces like knuckles, toes, and earlobes.
- Latex-Free and Non-Irritating: Manufactured without natural rubber latex, making it safe for patients with sensitive skin or history of adhesive allergies.
- Foil-Lined Sterile Packaging: Each dressing is individually wrapped in a sterile, tamper-evident foil pouch to ensure the petrolatum remains saturated and the medication remains potent until the moment of application.
-
Moisture Retention: Seals in essential moisture to promote autolytic debridement and maintain the optimal humidity levels required for accelerated wound healing.
Ideal Clinical Applications
- Dermatological Biopsies: The 2" x 2" size is the clinical standard for covering punch or shave biopsy sites following dermatological procedures.
- Small Surgical Incisions: Ideal for protecting minor suture lines, laparoscopic port sites, or small plastic surgery incisions.
- Digital Injuries: Perfectly sized for wrapping lacerations or abrasions on fingers and toes where larger dressings are too bulky.
- Minor Burns: Provides a soothing, non-stick contact layer for localized first-degree or small partial-thickness burns.
- Pediatric Wound Care: Offers a gentle, non-threatening dressing size for minor childhood scrapes and injuries where skin fragility is a concern.
- Skin Graft Fixation: Used as a primary layer to secure and protect small skin grafts or to cover localized donor sites.
- Chronic Ulcer Management: Suitable for the management of small-diameter diabetic foot ulcers or venous leg ulcers with low exudate levels.

Important Safety Information
Contraindications
Do not use this product on patients with a known hypersensitivity or allergy to Bismuth Tribromophenate, petrolatum, or any components of the gauze.
This dressing is not indicated for use on third-degree burns or wounds with heavy necrotic "eschar" that requires aggressive sharp debridement.
Warnings & Precautions
The Dukal® Sterile XEROFORM® dressing is intended for use as a primary contact layer and must be covered by an appropriate secondary absorbent dressing (such as gauze sponges or abdominal pads) to manage wound exudate.
Do not use if the individual sterile packaging is opened or damaged, as the sterility of the product is no longer guaranteed.
Monitor the wound site for signs of localized irritation or allergic reaction. If redness, swelling, or persistent pain occurs, discontinue use and consult a physician.
While the petrolatum helps maintain a moist environment, clinicians should assess the wound regularly to ensure the site does not become overly macerated, especially in high-exudate wounds.
Store in a cool, dry place to maintain the consistency of the petrolatum impregnation. Excessive heat may cause the petrolatum to migrate within the packaging or degrade the mesh integrity.
