Sterile XEROFORM® Petrolatum Non-Adhering Dressings, 4" x 3 yds
Please note: All prices are for cases.
The Dukal® Sterile XEROFORM® Petrolatum Non-Adhering Dressing (SKU 216) is a primary wound contact layer consisting of a fine-mesh gauze impregnated with a medicinal blend of 3% Bismuth Tribromophenate and USP-grade petrolatum. This 4-inch by 3-yard roll is designed to provide a soothing, moist healing environment while preventing secondary dressings from adhering to the wound bed. The non-toxic, non-irritating formula is specifically engineered to protect regenerating tissue and facilitate pain-free dressing changes. The large roll format allows for customized sizing, making it suitable for wrapping large limbs or cutting to fit irregular wound geometries.
Key Features
- Bacteriostatic Formulation: Infused with 3% Bismuth Tribromophenate, which provides a mild bacteriostatic effect to inhibit bacterial growth at the wound site and functions as an effective deodorizing agent for malodorous wounds.
- Non-Adherent Protection: The petrolatum-saturated mesh creates a physical barrier that prevents the dressing from sticking to the wound bed, significantly reducing mechanical trauma and pain during removal.
- Fine-Mesh Gauze Construction: The flexible, fine-knit gauze allows the dressing to conform and cling to difficult body contours, ensuring consistent contact with the wound surface for optimized healing.
- Moist Wound Healing Environment: Effectively seals in essential moisture to foster an environment conducive to autolytic debridement and rapid epithelialization.
- Customizable Roll Format: The 3-yard length provides ample material for treating extensive surface areas or can be cut into smaller strips for narrow wound packing and tunneling.
- Sterile Peel-Open Packaging: Each roll is individually packaged in a sterile, foil-lined pouch to maintain integrity and prevent the petrolatum from drying out or leaking before use.
-
Latex-Free Material: Manufactured without natural rubber latex to ensure safety for patients and clinicians with sensitivities or allergies.
Ideal Clinical Applications
- Skin Grafts and Donor Sites: Provides a protective, non-stick interface that supports successful tissue integration and protects newly harvested skin.
- First-Degree and Partial-Thickness Burns: Offers soothing relief and prevents further tissue damage by maintaining a moist, protected barrier during the initial healing phases.
- Surgical Incisions: Used as an initial layer over fresh sutures to prevent secondary gauze dressings from adhering to the incision line.
- Traumatic Abrasions and Lacerations: Ideal for superficial injuries or large-scale abrasions where a non-adherent, medicated barrier is required to protect the wound bed.
- Wound Packing and Tunneling: Sized appropriately for packing deep cavities or managing tunneling wounds that require a bacteriostatic, non-adhering filler.
- Dermatological Procedures: Used following cancer resections or other surgical skin procedures to provide a gentle, non-irritating contact layer for sensitive tissue.
- Low-to-No Exudate Wounds: Best suited for dry or lightly draining wounds where maintaining a moist environment is critical to preventing wound desiccation.

Important Safety Information
Contraindications
Do not use this product on patients with a known hypersensitivity or allergy to Bismuth Tribromophenate, petrolatum, or any components of the gauze.
This dressing is not indicated for use on third-degree burns or wounds with heavy necrotic "eschar" that requires aggressive sharp debridement.
Warnings & Precautions
The Dukal® Sterile XEROFORM® dressing is intended for use as a primary contact layer and must be covered by an appropriate secondary absorbent dressing (such as gauze sponges or abdominal pads) to manage wound exudate.
Do not use if the individual sterile packaging is opened or damaged, as the sterility of the product is no longer guaranteed.
Monitor the wound site for signs of localized irritation or allergic reaction. If redness, swelling, or persistent pain occurs, discontinue use and consult a physician.
While the petrolatum helps maintain a moist environment, clinicians should assess the wound regularly to ensure the site does not become overly macerated, especially in high-exudate wounds.
Store in a cool, dry place to maintain the consistency of the petrolatum impregnation. Excessive heat may cause the petrolatum to migrate within the packaging or degrade the mesh integrity.
