Sterile XEROFORM® Petrolatum Non-Adhering Dressings, 4" x 4"
Please note: All prices are for cases.
The Dukal® Sterile XEROFORM® Petrolatum Non-Adhering Dressing (SKU 215) is a primary wound contact layer designed for localized wound care. This 4-inch by 4-inch (10.2 cm x 10.2 cm) dressing is composed of a fine-mesh gauze impregnated with a medicinal blend of 3% Bismuth Tribromophenate and USP-grade petrolatum. It is engineered to create a moist, protected healing environment that prevents secondary dressings from sticking to the wound bed. This non-toxic and non-irritating dressing is specifically designed to protect delicate regenerating tissue and facilitate trauma-free dressing changes for the patient.
Key Features
- Bacteriostatic Action: Infused with 3% Bismuth Tribromophenate, which provides a mild bacteriostatic effect to help suppress bacterial growth at the wound site.
- Deodorizing Properties: The Xeroform component acts as a specialized deodorizing agent, helping to manage and reduce odors associated with infected or chronic wounds.
- Non-Adherent Interface: The petrolatum-saturated gauze prevents the dressing from adhering to the wound bed, which significantly minimizes mechanical trauma and patient pain during removal.
- Fine-Mesh Gauze Construction: The flexible, fine-knit gauze conforms and clings to all body contours, ensuring consistent contact with the wound surface.
- Moist Wound Healing Support: Effectively seals in moisture to foster an environment conducive to autolytic debridement and faster epithelialization.
- Safe and Non-Irritating: Manufactured to be non-toxic and hypoallergenic, making it safe for use on sensitive skin and fragile tissue.
- Sterile Individual Packaging: Each 4" x 4" dressing is individually wrapped in a sterile, foil-lined peel-pouch to maintain potency and prevent the petrolatum from drying out.
Ideal Clinical Applications
- Post-Surgical Incisions: Used as an initial layer over fresh sutures to protect the incision line and prevent secondary gauze from sticking.
- Skin Graft and Donor Sites: Provides a non-adherent protective barrier that supports successful skin graft integration and protects newly harvested tissue.
- First-Degree Burns: Offers soothing relief and a protective moisture barrier for minor burns, preventing further tissue damage.
- Abrasions and Lacerations: Ideal for superficial traumatic injuries where a medicated, non-stick barrier is necessary to protect the healing wound bed.
- Wound Packing: Sized appropriately for the light packing of shallow cavities or tunneling wounds that require a bacteriostatic filler.
- Dermatological Procedures: Frequently used following biopsy sites or cancer resections to provide a gentle, non-irritating contact layer for sensitive tissue.
- Low-Exudate Chronic Wounds: Suitable for dry or lightly draining wounds where maintaining moisture is essential to prevent wound desiccation.

Important Safety Information
Contraindications
Do not use this product on patients with a known hypersensitivity or allergy to Bismuth Tribromophenate, petrolatum, or any components of the gauze.
This dressing is not indicated for use on third-degree burns or wounds with heavy necrotic "eschar" that requires aggressive sharp debridement.
Warnings & Precautions
The Dukal® Sterile XEROFORM® dressing is intended for use as a primary contact layer and must be covered by an appropriate secondary absorbent dressing (such as gauze sponges or abdominal pads) to manage wound exudate.
Do not use if the individual sterile packaging is opened or damaged, as the sterility of the product is no longer guaranteed.
Monitor the wound site for signs of localized irritation or allergic reaction. If redness, swelling, or persistent pain occurs, discontinue use and consult a physician.
While the petrolatum helps maintain a moist environment, clinicians should assess the wound regularly to ensure the site does not become overly macerated, especially in high-exudate wounds.
Store in a cool, dry place to maintain the consistency of the petrolatum impregnation. Excessive heat may cause the petrolatum to migrate within the packaging or degrade the mesh integrity.
