Sterile XEROFORM® Petrolatum Non-Adhering Dressings, 5" x 9"
Please note: All prices are for cases.
The Dukal® Sterile XEROFORM® Petrolatum Non-Adhering Dressing (SKU 213) is a mid-sized rectangular primary wound contact layer designed for broader wound coverage. This 5-inch by 9-inch (12.7 cm x 22.9 cm) dressing consists of a fine-mesh gauze thoroughly impregnated with a medicinal blend of 3% Bismuth Tribromophenate and USP-grade petrolatum. It is engineered to provide a bacteriostatic, deodorizing, and moist environment that prevents secondary dressings from adhering to the wound bed. The 5" x 9" dimensions make it particularly effective for treating elongated surgical incisions, medium-sized burns, and donor sites without the need for overlapping multiple smaller patches.
Key Features
-
Extended 5" x 9" Rectangular Dimensions: Specifically sized to cover medium-to-large linear incisions and rectangular wound areas, providing a seamless sterile barrier for more extensive injuries.
- Bacteriostatic and Deodorizing Properties: Contains 3% Bismuth Tribromophenate, which inhibits bacterial colonization at the wound site and serves as a highly effective deodorizing agent for managing malodorous drainage.
- Atraumatic Non-Adherent Interface: The petrolatum-saturated gauze creates a lubricated physical barrier that prevents the dressing from sticking to the wound bed, significantly reducing patient pain and mechanical trauma to new tissue during removal.
- Fine-Mesh Gauze Construction: The flexible, fine-knit gauze is designed to conform and cling to the body’s contours, ensuring the medicated petrolatum remains in continuous contact with the wound surface.
- Moist Wound Healing Support: Effectively seals in essential moisture to foster an environment conducive to autolytic debridement and rapid epithelialization while preventing wound desiccation.
- Latex-Free and Hypoallergenic: Manufactured without natural rubber latex to ensure safety for patients and healthcare providers with skin sensitivities or known latex allergies.
- Sterile Foil-Pouch Packaging: Each dressing is individually sealed in a sterile, foil-lined peel-pouch to maintain the saturation of the petrolatum and the potency of the bacteriostatic agent.
Ideal Clinical Applications
- Orthopedic and Abdominal Incisions: The 9-inch length is ideal for covering surgical suture lines following hip, knee, or abdominal procedures, preventing secondary gauze from sticking to the incision.
- Skin Graft Donor Sites: Provides an excellent non-adherent protective layer for medium-sized donor sites, facilitating healing and protecting the sensitive area during recovery.
- Partial-Thickness Burns: Offers soothing relief and a protective moisture barrier for mid-sized burn injuries, preventing further tissue damage during dressing changes.
- Large Traumatic Abrasions: Specifically suited for "road rash" or significant lacerations where a non-stick, medicated barrier is required to protect the regenerating wound bed.
- Reconstructive and Plastic Surgery: Used as a primary layer over complex surgical sites to maintain moisture and protect delicate tissue grafts.
- Pressure Injuries and Chronic Ulcers: Suitable for the management of Stage II pressure injuries and venous ulcers with low-to-moderate exudate levels.
- Dermatological Resections: Often utilized following large-scale skin cancer resections to provide a gentle, non-irritating contact layer for sensitive exposed tissue.

Important Safety Information
Contraindications
Do not use this product on patients with a known hypersensitivity or allergy to Bismuth Tribromophenate, petrolatum, or any components of the gauze.
This dressing is not indicated for use on third-degree burns or wounds with heavy necrotic "eschar" that requires aggressive sharp debridement.
Warnings & Precautions
The Dukal® Sterile XEROFORM® dressing is intended for use as a primary contact layer and must be covered by an appropriate secondary absorbent dressing (such as gauze sponges or abdominal pads) to manage wound exudate.
Do not use if the individual sterile packaging is opened or damaged, as the sterility of the product is no longer guaranteed.
Monitor the wound site for signs of localized irritation or allergic reaction. If redness, swelling, or persistent pain occurs, discontinue use and consult a physician.
While the petrolatum helps maintain a moist environment, clinicians should assess the wound regularly to ensure the site does not become overly macerated, especially in high-exudate wounds.
Store in a cool, dry place to maintain the consistency of the petrolatum impregnation. Excessive heat may cause the petrolatum to migrate within the packaging or degrade the mesh integrity.
