Acelity Fibracol™ Collagen-Alginate Wound Dressing - 2" x 2", 12/bx, 6 bx/cs

Please note: All prices are for cases.

The Solventum Fibracol™ Plus (SKU 2981) is a sterile, advanced primary dressing designed for the precision management of small partial- and full-thickness wounds. This 2" x 2" (5.1cm x 5.1cm) square sheet is composed of a specialized matrix of 90% bovine collagen and 10% calcium alginate. By combining the biological scaffolding properties of collagen with the high-absorbency and gel-forming capabilities of alginate, Fibracol™ Plus maintains a physiologically moist microenvironment that supports granulation tissue formation and epithelialization. This small-format dressing is engineered to maintain its structural integrity even when saturated, allowing for clean, one-piece removal and minimizing the risk of leaving residual fibers in the wound bed.

Key Features

  • 90% Collagen / 10% Alginate Matrix: Integrates the structural benefits of collagen with superior exudate-handling capabilities, offering significantly higher absorbency than traditional collagen-only dressings.
  • Small Square Footprint: The 2" x 2" dimensions are specifically optimized for smaller wound sites, reducing waste and the need for extensive trimming in clinical settings.
  • Non-Adherent Gel Transformation: On contact with wound exudate, the dressing converts into a soft, conformable gel that protects delicate new tissue and ensures trauma-free dressing changes.
  • Hemostatic Support: The inclusion of calcium alginate provides enhanced hemostatic properties compared to collagen alone, aiding in the management of minor bleeding at the wound surface.
  • Structural Integrity: Designed to stay intact when wet, facilitating easy and complete removal, which simplifies wound cleansing and prevents fiber shedding.

Ideal Clinical Applications

  • Diabetic Foot Ulcers (DFUs): Perfectly sized for smaller ulcers on the toes, heels, or metatarsal heads where precision coverage is required.
  • Small Pressure Injuries: A primary choice for Stage II, III, and IV pressure ulcers of limited surface area that require a stable scaffold for tissue regrowth.
  • Venous Leg Ulcers (VLUs): Provides moisture balance and structural support for small, chronic lower-extremity wounds during the 24- to 96-hour treatment window.
  • Biopsy and Minor Surgical Sites: Ideal for covering small excision sites or dehisced surgical wounds that require secondary intention healing.
  • Puncture Wounds and Small Trauma: Protects the wound bed of small traumatic lacerations while managing initial drainage and promoting granulation.

Important Safety Information

Contraindications: Do not use on patients with a known sensitivity to collagen or alginates. Not indicated for the management of third-degree burns or wounds with active vasculitis.

Moistening Protocol: For wounds with minimal exudate, the dressing should be moistened with sterile saline immediately after application to initiate the gel-forming process and prevent adherence to the wound bed.

Secondary Dressing Requirement: Fibracol™ Plus is a primary dressing and must be covered with an appropriate secondary dressing (e.g., foam, hydrocolloid, or film) to maintain the optimal moisture balance.

Change Frequency: Reapply when the secondary dressing reaches capacity or according to facility protocol. Heavily exuding wounds may require daily changes, while moderate wounds can typically go 2 to 4 days between changes.

Infection Management: This dressing may be used on clinically infected wounds only when the underlying cause is being addressed by concurrent systemic medical therapy.
