The Solventum Fibracol™ Plus (SKU 2983) is a sterile, advanced primary dressing designed to support the wound healing process through a unique combination of 90% bovine collagen and 10% calcium alginate. This specific 4" x 8 3/4" (10.2cm x 22.2cm) sheet configuration provides a large, conformable surface area for managing extensive partial- and full-thickness wounds. By merging the structural scaffold of collagen with the high-absorbency and gel-forming properties of alginate, Fibracol™ Plus maintains a physiologically moist microenvironment that promotes granulation tissue formation and epithelialization. The dressing is engineered to maintain its initial integrity even when saturated, allowing for clean, one-piece removal without leaving residual fibers in the wound bed.
Key Features
- 90% Collagen / 10% Alginate Matrix: Combines the biological benefits of collagen with the exudate-handling capabilities of alginate, making it significantly more absorbent than traditional collagen-only dressings.
- Large Rectangular Sheet: The 4" x 8 3/4" dimensions are optimized for large-surface-area wounds; the soft material is easily trimmed with sterile scissors to fit specific wound contours.
- Non-Adherent Gel Formation: On contact with exudate, the dressing transforms into a soft gel that protects the wound bed from desiccation and ensures trauma-free dressing changes.
- Superior Hemostatic Properties: The inclusion of calcium alginate provides better hemostatic support than collagen alone, assisting in the management of minor bleeding at the wound surface.
- Maintains Structural Integrity: Designed to stay intact when wet, preventing the breakdown and fiber shedding common with standard alginates, which simplifies the cleansing process.
Ideal Clinical Applications
- Extensive Pressure Injuries: A primary choice for Stage III and IV pressure ulcers that require a large-area scaffold to support tissue regrowth and manage moderate-to-heavy drainage.
- Venous and Diabetic Ulcers: Provides moisture balance and structural support for chronic lower-extremity ulcers, supporting the healing of slow-to-close wounds.
- Large Donor Sites: Ideal for covering areas where skin has been harvested, protecting the delicate tissue while managing the high volumes of serous exudate typical of these sites.
- Second-Degree Burns: Offers a protective, conformable barrier for partial-thickness burns, maintaining the moist environment necessary for rapid re-epithelialization.
- Traumatic and Dehisced Wounds: Used for managing large surgical wounds healing by secondary intention or traumatic lacerations with significant tissue loss.

Important Safety Information
Contraindications: Do not use on patients with a known sensitivity to collagen or alginates. Not indicated for the management of third-degree burns or wounds with active vasculitis.
Moistening Protocol: For wounds with minimal exudate, the dressing should be moistened with sterile saline immediately after application to initiate the gel-forming process and prevent adherence to the wound bed.
Secondary Dressing Requirement: Fibracol™ Plus is a primary dressing and must be covered with an appropriate secondary dressing (such as a foam, hydrocolloid, or transparent film) to maintain the vacuum or moisture seal.
Change Frequency: Reapply when the secondary dressing reaches capacity or according to facility protocol. Heavily exuding wounds may require daily changes, while moderate wounds can typically go 2 to 4 days between changes.
Infection Management: This dressing may be used on infected wounds only when the underlying cause is being addressed by concurrent systemic medical treatment.
