Durapore™ Surgical Tape - 3" x 10 yds, 4 rl/bx, 10 bx/cs

Please note: All prices are for cases.

The Solventum Durapore™ Surgical Tape (1538-3) is a professional-grade, silk-like cloth medical tape engineered for high-strength securement of heavy medical devices and bulky dressings. As a "high-adhesion" medical tape, it features a durable, woven backing that provides the necessary tensile strength to prevent stretching or failure under physical stress. The hypoallergenic, pressure-sensitive acrylate adhesive is specifically designed to offer immediate, aggressive tack to dry skin, ensuring that critical securement remains intact for up to 72 hours even on mobile or active patients.

This specific 3-inch width configuration is the broadest standard roll in the Durapore™ series, making it the primary choice for institutional settings requiring maximum surface area for the stabilization of heavy tubing, such as chest tubes or urinary catheters. Its silk-like cloth construction allows the tape to conform to major body contours while remaining easy to tear by hand—both horizontally and vertically—without the need for surgical scissors. The 1538-3 model is optimized for reliability in acute care, surgical, and emergency environments where high-tack performance is non-negotiable for patient safety and device stability.

Key Features

  • High-Strength Silk-Like Cloth: Provides superior tensile strength to secure heavy medical equipment and prevent device migration.
  • Bi-Directional Hand Tear: Woven structure allows for rapid, clean tearing by hand in both directions, even at the 3-inch width, improving clinical workflow.
  • Hypoallergenic Adhesive: Formulated to minimize the risk of skin irritation while maintaining maximum bond strength.
  • Conformable and Durable: Adapts to anatomical curves and resists fraying or stretching during extended patient movement.
  • Aggressive Adhesion Profile: Delivers high initial and long-term tack to dry skin, making it ideal for the most demanding securement tasks.

Ideal Clinical Applications

  • Heavy Device Anchoring: Specifically indicated for the primary securement of chest tubes, nasogastric (NG) tubes, and urinary catheters.
  • Bulky Dressing Fixation: Provides broad stabilization for large abdominal, orthopedic, or post-operative surgical dressings.
  • Patient Positioning: Used in surgical settings to secure limbs or stabilize joints during procedures requiring high-strength immobilization.
  • Multi-Point Stabilization: Ideal for scenarios where a wide footprint is required to distribute tension across a larger area of the skin.

Important Safety Information

Contraindications

Do not use this product as the primary securement method for critical life-support equipment, such as endotracheal tubes or arterial lines, unless specifically mandated by facility-specific critical care protocols.

Do not apply this tape directly to infected wound beds, deep cavity wounds, or areas of active hemorrhage.

Warnings & Precautions

Do not apply Durapore™ tape under tension. Applying high-adhesion cloth tape with "stretch" can cause significant mechanical tension-induced skin injury, including localized blistering, epidermal stripping, or vascular compromise.

Ensure the application site is clean and dry before use. The presence of topical ointments, oily residues, or heavy moisture will degrade the performance of the pressure-sensitive acrylate adhesive.

This tape features very high adhesion. It is not recommended for use on patients with extremely fragile, "tissue-paper," or at-risk skin, such as elderly or neonatal patients, as removal may cause skin tears. Consider a gentler option like Micropore™ for these populations.

To remove properly, loosen the tape's leading edge and remove "low and slow" in the direction of hair growth while stabilizing the skin with the other hand. Use of a medical adhesive remover is highly recommended for sensitive sites to prevent trauma.

Store the product in a cool, dry environment (50-80°F) to maintain adhesive integrity. Exposure to extreme heat or high humidity may lead to adhesive transfer or reduced bond strength.
