The Solventum Tegaderm™ IV Transparent Film Dressing (SKU 1610) is a sterile, waterproof, and breathable securement dressing specifically designed for peripheral intravenous (PIV) catheters. This 2 inch x 2 1/4 inch (5 cm x 5.7 cm) dressing is the most compact bordered configuration in the Tegaderm™ IV line, making it the standard choice for pediatric, neonatal, and small-site adult vascular access. It features a reinforced cloth border and a specialized notched design that allows the dressing to fit securely around the catheter hub, providing stabilization while maintaining a transparent window for continuous site monitoring.
Key Features
- Reinforced Cloth Border: Features a non-woven, soft cloth perimeter that increases the adhesive surface area and provides superior resistance to "edge-lift," ensuring the dressing remains secure even on active or mobile patients.
- Specialized Notched Design: Specifically engineered with a pre-cut notch to accommodate catheter tubing and hubs, ensuring a tighter seal and more contoured fit around the device to prevent movement.
- Waterproof and Viral Barrier: Effectively blocks external liquids and microorganisms—including viruses 27 nm in diameter or larger—while the dressing remains intact, protecting the insertion site from environmental contamination.
- High Moisture Vapor Transmission Rate (MVTR): Utilizes advanced film technology that allows for exceptional breathability, keeping the skin dry and reducing the risk of moisture-related skin damage (MASD) or maceration under the dressing.
- Continuous Site Visibility: The high-clarity transparent window provides an unobstructed view of the catheter insertion site, allowing clinicians to assess for signs of phlebitis or infection without disturbing the dressing.
- Securement Strips and Documentation Label: Typically provided with sterile tape strips to anchor the catheter further and a pre-printed label to document the date and time of the dressing change.
Ideal Clinical Applications
- Peripheral IV Management: The primary choice for securing standard peripheral intravenous catheters in both adult and pediatric populations.
- Pediatric and Neonatal Care: The small footprint and gentle yet secure adhesive are ideally suited for the limited skin surface area and fragile skin of infants and children.
- Small-Bore Catheters: Provides reliable securement for smaller medical devices, such as butterfly needles or small-gauge arterial lines.
- Hand and Scalp IV Sites: Highly effective for securing access in difficult anatomical locations where a larger dressing would be bulky or prone to premature lifting.
- Minor Procedure Sites: Can be used to protect and monitor small puncture sites or diagnostic insertion points that require a breathable, waterproof cover.

Important Safety Information
Drug Patch Contraindication: Do not use this dressing to cover medicated drug delivery patches (e.g., fentanyl or nicotine). The occlusive nature of the film can dangerously increase the rate of drug absorption, potentially leading to an overdose.
Skin Tension Warning: Do not stretch the dressing during application. Applying the film or the reinforced border under tension can cause mechanical skin trauma and tension blisters.
Hemostasis Requirement: Active bleeding must be controlled and adequate hemostasis achieved at the insertion site before applying the dressing to ensure a secure and long-lasting seal.
Removal Technique: Use the "low and slow" method, peeling the dressing back over itself in the direction of hair growth while supporting the skin to prevent trauma or catheter dislodgement.
