The Solventum Tegaderm™ IV Transparent Film Dressing (SKU 1668) is a sterile, specialized securement dressing designed for central venous catheters (CVCs) and other large-bore vascular access devices. This 4.75 inch x 4.75 inch (12 cm x 12 cm) dressing features a unique adhesive-free window over the insertion site. This design prevents the dressing from sticking to the catheter or the wound, reducing the risk of catheter dislodgement or "pull" during dressing changes. The large footprint and reinforced border provide the high level of stabilization required for critical lines while maintaining a waterproof, viral, and bacterial barrier.
Key Features
- Adhesive-Free Window: The central transparent area lacks adhesive, ensuring the film does not bond to the catheter or the insertion site; this facilitates safer, pain-free removal and minimizes the risk of accidental catheter movement.
- Reinforced Cloth Border: Features a durable, non-woven border that provides extra securement and helps prevent "edge lift," even when subjected to the tension of heavy infusion tubing.
- High Moisture Vapor Transmission Rate (MVTR): Engineered with advanced film technology that allows for superior breathability, keeping the skin dry and reducing the risk of moisture-related skin damage (MASD) under the dressing.
- Waterproof and Viral Barrier: Effectively blocks external liquids and microorganisms—including viruses 27 nm in diameter or larger—while the dressing remains intact, protecting the patient from environmental contamination.
- Deep Notch and Securement Strips: Includes a specialized notched design to fit snugly around catheter lumens, complemented by sterile tape strips to provide additional stabilization and document dressing change dates.
- Continuous Site Visibility: Despite the reinforced borders, the high-clarity window allows clinicians to monitor the insertion site for signs of infection or complication without disturbing the dressing.
Ideal Clinical Applications
- Central Venous Catheter (CVC) Securement: The primary choice for jugular, subclavian, or femoral central lines where stability and site visibility are critical.
- Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICC): Provides the large area of coverage and high-strength adhesive needed to secure PICC lines on the upper arm.
- Arterial Lines: Specifically suited for securing arterial catheters that require frequent inspection and high-tension stabilization.
- Epidural Catheters: Offers a secure, sterile cover for spinal catheters, accommodating the bulk of the catheter hub while keeping the insertion site visible.
- Large Dialysis Catheters: Manages the securement of high-flow dialysis lines where the adhesive-free window prevents the dressing from sticking to the large-diameter tubing.

Important Safety Information
Drug Patch Contraindication: Do not use this dressing to cover medicated drug delivery patches (e.g., fentanyl or nicotine). The occlusive nature of the film can dangerously increase the rate of drug absorption, potentially leading to an overdose.
Skin Tension Warning: Do not stretch the dressing during application. Applying the film under tension can cause mechanical skin trauma and tension blisters at the border edges.
Hemostasis Requirement: Active bleeding must be controlled and adequate hemostasis achieved at the insertion site before applying the dressing to ensure a secure, long-lasting seal.
